BSI Global Logistics handled the ocean export of 32 oversized electric trucks equipped with lithium batteries, providing a specialized shipping from China to Mexico solution for a leading Chinese automotive manufacturer.

The trucks exceeded the height and dimensional limits of standard containers and had a high gross vehicle weight. 1. Specialized Equipment for Oversized Vehicles

BSI selected 40-foot flat rack containers, as part of its special equipment shipping solution. The open-top and open-side configuration eliminates the height and sidewall restrictions of standard containers, making flat racks well suited to oversized electric trucks.

This equipment was well suited to the dimensions of the oversized electric trucks and provided an effective solution for transporting vehicles that could not be loaded into conventional containers.

2. Optimized Loading for Higher Space Utilization

Based on the dimensions of the flat rack and the specifications of the trucks, BSI developed a customized stowage plan that enabled two electric trucks to be loaded on a single flat rack.

The optimized configuration improved container utilization and helped reduce the overall logistics cost per vehicle.

3. Compliant Lithium Battery Shipping

As the electric trucks were equipped with lithium batteries classified as Class 9 dangerous goods, BSI followed applicable dangerous goods requirements throughout the ocean shipping process.

The operation included proper labeling, dangerous goods declaration, loading documentation, and photographic records of the loading process, together with appropriate securing measures to help mitigate transportation risks such as short circuits and thermal runaway.

Project Results

BSI successfully completed the collection, loading, and ocean shipment of all 32 electric trucks using specialized flat rack equipment.

The vehicles were securely loaded and delivered in good condition, while the lithium battery cargo was handled in compliance with applicable dangerous goods requirements.
